Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? Good. I had about a thousand of them when I started (hello, recovering skeptic π). Here are the ones I hear most, all in one spot. Tap any question to open it.

π± Getting Started
Do I have to believe in this for it to work?
Nope. You don't need any spiritual practice or belief. Just a little openness. Plenty of my favorite clients walked in skeptical, and many simply experience sessions as deep relaxation and stress release.
What if nothing happens?
Something always happens, even if it's subtle: warmth, tingling, heaviness, or just quiet. Sometimes the shift shows up later, like better sleep or a lighter mood a few days after. And if all you notice is 45 minutes of real rest? Your nervous system still counts that as a win. Read more in A Skeptic's Guide to Your First Energy Session.
I'm brand new. Where should I start?
A 20-minute Soul Snack mini-session ($25 to $55) is a low-pressure way to try the work without committing to a full hour. Or check out the New to Woo? Start Here page, which matches sessions to how you're feeling.
Do you offer sessions online?
Yes! Reiki, mediumship, Akashic Records, light language, and Soul Snacks all work online through Google Meet. Energy doesn't care about zip codes. Red light and the heat mat are in person only, for obvious reasons. π
Where is your studio?
My cozy home studio is at 41 Grandview Heights, Waterbury, VT. You'll get arrival details after you book.
How do I book?
Choose your session on the website and check out. Then pick your time using the booking link in your confirmation (or on the session page). Questions first? Email soul.illumination.danra@gmail.com.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfy clothes and an open mind. That's it! A water bottle is nice for afterward. For red light, shorts and a tank top work best (more on that below).
Can I record my session or take notes?
Yes, you're welcome to record or take notes, especially for mediumship and Akashic readings.
π Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy-healing practice that supports relaxation and your body's natural ability to restore balance. I'm trained in Level II Usui Reiki. You can see my Vermont disclosure statement here.
What happens during a session? Do I stay clothed?
You lie down fully clothed (always!) while I use light touch or hold my hands slightly above your body, whichever you prefer. Touch-free sessions work just as well. Most people feel warm, calm, or tingly, and many fall asleep. That's totally fine; your body still receives the benefits.
How long is a session, and how much is it?
30 minutes ($66) or 60 minutes ($100), online or in person. Through December 31, in-person Reiki includes the heated infrared mat for free. See Reiki sessions
Can Reiki make me emotional?
Sometimes. Emotions may gently surface as energy shifts, which is a normal part of the process. Drink water, rest, and be kind to yourself for a day or two. You'll get my aftercare guide with every session.
How often should I get Reiki?
Weekly, monthly, or whenever you feel called. There's no wrong answer. Some people love one session; others enjoy ongoing support. Packages are available if you want to make it a habit.
ποΈ Mediumship
What is evidential mediumship?
It means I ask Spirit for specific, recognizable details (names or initials, personality quirks, shared memories, hobbies) so you can clearly tell who's coming through. No vague messages and no guessing games.
Can I request a specific loved one?
You're welcome to hold someone in your heart, but I can't guarantee who will come through. Spirit decides what's most needed for you right now, and the most meaningful connections are often unexpected.
Do I need to prepare or tell you anything first?
No. Please don't share your story ahead of time! Just come as you are. You're welcome to ask questions during the reading once someone has come through.
What if I don't recognize something?
Totally normal. Some details click right away; others make sense later after you reflect, talk with family, or listen back to your recording.
Do you predict the future?
No. Mediumship isn't fortune-telling. Messages come with love and support, never fear, predictions, or instructions you have to follow.
Can a friend come with me?
Sessions are for one person, since extra energy in the room can muddy the messages. Interested in a shared session? Reach out and we'll talk options.
π Akashic Records
What are the Akashic Records?
Think of them as your soul's Google Drive: the big-picture record of your patterns, lessons, and path. A reading can help with questions like "why does this keep happening?" or "what is this teaching me?"
How should I prepare?
Bring open-ended questions that start with what, how, or why (instead of yes/no). Relationships, career patterns, ancestral ties, and soul purpose are all great themes. You'll get an intake form after booking.
What are my options?
A 20-minute, 1-question Soul Snack reading ($44), or a full 60-minute reading ($199). See the Akashic Records reading
β¨ Light Language
What is light language?
It's a channeled form of energetic communication (sound, hand movements, or symbols) that speaks to your soul rather than your thinking mind. A helpful comparison is music: you don't need to understand the words to feel something. Read the full explainer
Do I need to understand it? What if it sounds strange?
Nope, and strange is normal! It isn't meant to be translated word for word. Just relax and receive. Many people feel warmth, tingles, emotion, or calm.
Where can I try it for free first?
Listen to me explain it on The Unity Code (Light Language for Skeptics) or Grounded in Spirit (From Skeptic to Spirit), or watch our free 7-part Light Language Awakening series on YouTube. The monthly circles are also pay what you can, starting at $0.
What are my session options?
π΄ Red Light & Infrared Heat Mat
Is the red light room hot like a sauna?
No! It's three red and near-infrared LED panels. You may feel a gentle warmth, but it's not a sauna and there's no UV. You stand or sit (no lying down), the door stays open a crack, and you wear protective glasses. Sessions are 15 minutes. See red light sessions
What should I wear for red light?
Light works best on bare skin, so shorts and a tank top are perfect. Come with clean skin, and skip lotions, retinol, and citrus essential oils that day.
What's the infrared heat mat like?
You lie fully clothed on a warm mat filled with amethyst, jade, and tourmaline for 20 minutes. Gentle PEMF and red light settings are optional. See the heat mat
Is red light or the heat mat safe for everyone?
Not for everyone. Please check with your doctor first if you're pregnant, have epilepsy, a pacemaker or other implanted device, a light-sensitive condition, cancer, or take medications that increase light sensitivity. The heat mat has a few more (like blood thinners, diabetes, or neuropathy). Each session page has the full list. Red light sessions are for ages 18+.
π The Fine Print (Gently)
Is this a substitute for medical care?
No. All sessions are for relaxation and personal growth. They don't diagnose, treat, or cure any condition and aren't a substitute for care from your doctor or therapist. Please keep working with your healthcare providers alongside this work. See the full Master Disclaimer.
What if my session didn't feel right?
Please reach out to me directly. Your comfort matters, and I'm committed to making it right with sincerity and care.
